biography
Douglas Thorpe trained at London Contemporary Dance School and then joined Phoenix Dance Company where over a twenty year period he worked with a range of choreographers including the likes of Michael Clarke, Philip Taylor, Tom Jobe, Darshan Singh Bhuller, Henri Oguike, and Javier de Frutos.
Douglas soon began choreographing his own work and choreographed Left-a-lone for RJC’s 2003 tour Soma. 2008 saw the break through of Douglas’s choreography under the banner of Mad Dogs Dance Theatre with his piece Dry Toast, performed at The Place’s Robin Howard Dance Theatre. From then on it has been an invigorating journey.
In 2009 Douglas was invited to work with Phoenix Dance Theatre and ACE dance and music, Douglas’s choreography has now been seen across the UK at a number of prestige venues in both Phoenix and ACE’s 2009 tours. Douglas’s work Listen featured in the 2010 British Dance Edition as part of ACE dance and music’s presentation.
Douglas’s most recent work, ‘A mind as beautiful’, toured as part of Dance3 presented by the National Dance Network showcasing the best up and coming professional choreographers.
Douglas is currently going through an exciting period of development as a choreographer that promises to get more exhilarating in the coming year.
